Laparoscopic Placement of a Inamed LapBand

Adjustments
Definition of an Adjustment for the Inamed LapBand™: An adjustment is an injection of fluid [normal saline] via the access port to inflate the balloon within the band and decrease the diameter of the band and increase the resistance and entry of food into the stomach.
Patients who underwent placement of a Lapband will undergo their first adjustment or fill six weeks post procedure if their surgeons has not detected any potential problems.
This office follows simple guidelines.
- Adjustments are necessary when the patient stops to lose weight for a period of time.
- Adjustments should be done safely. Fills should be small in order to avoid local complications or erosion of the band into the stomach.
As of this year, all adjustments are office procedures. We no longer perform routine adjustments under fluoroscopic control. Each adjustment is a fifteen minutes office procedure.
Patient should note there is a marked volume difference between fills for a regular Lapband™ and a Vanguard Type Lapband™ [The Vanguard has a larger capacity. Larger Band]. A patient with a Vanguard Lapband™ may require additional fills or larger fills when compared to the regular Lapband™.
