New Techniques in Bariatric Surgery

The following techniques are not routine bariatric procedures. Some may not be FDA approved at the current time and may be performed under an investigation protocol. Please discuss these techniques at length with your surgeon if interested.

> Stomaphyx

This technique is a NOTES technique and has specific indications. It is currently used in our services as a "Revisional Bariatric Procedure". Typically, the candidates are patients who underwent a previous bariatric procedure and need to lose more weight.

This trans-oral device is used to decrease the size and or capacity of a gastric pouch after a gastric bypass - Roux Y.

The experience with this procedure is limited and no long term data is available. In addition, most health plans in the US will not cover this procedure and will route patients toward a adjustable gastric band placement.

> TOGA [Trans-Oral Gastroplasty]

This technique is ONLY offered as an investigational procedures to selected patients. It is NOT FDA approved and therefore will NOT be approved for routine use in the USA.

This procedure uses a trans-oral device and general anesthesia. It creates a gastric pouch within the stomach and is thus defined as a restrictive bariatric procedure.

Interested patients must join the on-going research study.
