“Eating Normally”

A Program to Support Weight-Loss, Health and Happiness

Facilitated by:  Summer N. Perry, PhD, MFT

Weight-loss surgery is a wonderful tool. It promotes weight-loss by helping you eat smaller amounts of food at one time and some weight-loss surgeries also keep your body from absorbing all of the calories from the foods you eat. Weight-loss surgery, however, doesn’t govern frequency of eating, choice of foods eaten, and use of food for such things as managing feelings.

Achieving and maintaining a healthy body weight after weight-loss surgery involves learning to eat “normally” – for life. Eating normally is something many weight-loss surgery patients have difficulty doing.Eating Normally is a program designed to help you transform your relationship with food – to help you replace unhealthy patterns of eating with normal eating behavior. Eating Normally will teach Cognitive-Behavioral techniques for healthy eating through education, group interaction, and skills development (assignments and/or homework are provided).

If weight-loss surgery alone isn’t helping you manage your eating behavior, you are concerned about achieving and maintaining a healthy body weight and/or you want to modify your eating behavior in preparation for surgery, this group may be for you.

Who may attend?  Weight-loss surgery patients who have had or are preparing to have weight-loss surgery. New patient smay join the group at any meeting. A commitment to attend 1 meeting per month is expected.

When are the meetings?  The meetings will be held once a month on the second Wednesday of each month beginning January 13, 2010.

What time will they be?  6:30 to 8:00 p.m.

Where will they be held?   Meetings will be at Providence St. Joseph’s Medical Center, 501 S. Buena Vista St., Burbank in the Lockheed Room B & C .

Is there a fee?  The meetings are graciously sponsored by Dr. Quilici and are free of charge for his patients.
